Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 16, 2026
- We collect what Plotluck needs to run your book club: your name, email, and what you do in your clubs.
- We don’t sell your information, and we don’t show ads.
- Private clubs stay private. Only members see a club’s posts, meetings and member list.
- You can ask us to delete your account and data anytime at hello@joinplotluck.com.
Who we are
Plotluck (“we,” “us”) is a website for hosting and finding book clubs at joinplotluck.com. Questions about this policy go to hello@joinplotluck.com.
What we collect
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your name and email address | To create your account, show your name to your clubs, and send sign-in and password emails |
| Your password | To sign you in. It’s stored scrambled (hashed); we can’t see it |
| Clubs you start or join, your role, and join requests | To run your clubs and decide who can see what |
| Posts, replies, and the chapter each is tagged with | To show the discussion and power Spoiler Shield |
| Your profile: photo, pronouns, city, bio and favorite books and authors (all optional) | To show other readers who you are |
| Your bookshelf: books, ratings, notes and recommendations | To show on your profile and count the books you’ve read |
| Who you follow | To show followers, following and friends |
| Your current chapter | To hide spoilers and show hosts who’s keeping up |
| Meeting details and RSVPs, including addresses and call links hosts enter | To show members where and when to meet |
| Basic technical data (like your browser type and IP address) in server logs | To keep the site secure and working |
Who can see your information
- Public clubs: anyone can see the club’s name, description, city, current book and member count. Posts, meetings and the member list are for members only.
- Private clubs: only members can see the club at all.
- Members of your clubs see your name, your posts, your RSVPs, and your current chapter.
- Hosts also see join requests and can approve or remove members.
- Signed-in readers can see your profile, bookshelf, and follower counts. Your private clubs are never shown to people who aren’t in them.
Services that help run Plotluck
We use a few trusted companies to run Plotluck. They only get what they need to do their job:
- Supabase stores your account and club information.
- Resend sends our emails (sign-up confirmations and password resets).
- Vercel hosts the website.
- Cloudflare runs our domain and forwards email sent to us.
- Open Library (or Google Books) receives what a host types when searching for a book.
- Geoapify receives what a host types when searching for a meeting address.
- Google Maps opens when you tap “Get directions,” and video apps like Zoom open when you tap a call link. Their own privacy policies apply there.
We don’t sell or rent your information to anyone, and we don’t use advertising trackers.
Cookies
We use cookies only to keep you signed in. We don’t use advertising or analytics cookies.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while your account is open. If you delete your account, we delete your profile and posts within 30 days, except where we must keep something for legal or security reasons. Copies in backups are removed as backups expire.
Your choices
- You can delete your posts, change your RSVPs, and leave clubs anytime.
- You can delete your whole account yourself from Edit profile → Delete my account. To see, correct or export your information, email hello@joinplotluck.com. We reply within 30 days.
- Depending on where you live, you may have extra rights under local law. We’ll honor those requests too.
Security
Your data is sent over encrypted connections, and the database enforces who can see what. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a password you don’t use anywhere else.
Children
Plotluck is for people 13 and older. If you believe a child under 13 has made an account, email us and we’ll delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we make important changes, we’ll update the date above and let members know by email or on the site. See also our Terms of Use.
